About ChimpKeys

What This Site Is

ChimpKeys is a free typing test built around one idea: measuring your speed should be instant, honest, and private. No account, no sign-up wall, no gimmicks — open the page, start typing, and get an accurate read on your words per minute and accuracy in as little as 15 seconds.

Alongside the test itself, we publish our own typing guides — practical, original articles on technique, practice planning, and ergonomics. Everything on this site is written for this site.

How the Test Measures You

We follow the industry-standard definition of a "word" as 5 characters including spaces, so short and long words score fairly. Net WPM counts only your correct characters; raw WPM counts every keystroke; accuracy is scored per keypress as you make it, so corrected mistakes still show up honestly in your stats. The timer is wall-clock accurate and your final partially-typed word counts too.

Choose 15, 30, 60, or 120-second tests. Your last 50 results are saved so you can watch your averages climb — the full scoring method is explained in our WPM guide.

Your Data Stays With You

Everything you type is processed in your browser, and your test history is stored only on your own device — we run no server that receives it. ChimpKeys is free to use and supported by advertising; the details of what is and isn't stored are laid out plainly in our privacy policy.

Who Makes It
